What Does It Take To Run
A Dinner Business From
Home
© David Newton March 12, 2010
“When your desires are strong enough you will appear to possess superhuman
powers to achieve.”
- Napoleon Hill
A lot of people work from home these days. Its known as cottage industry or small
business home based incomes. But little is known about how people actually work
from home, let alone how they manage their time or how they create an income to
support themselves.
If you want to run a dinner business you can do it part time, and the hours
don’t need to be onerous if you desire a full time income. I don’t know about
your own situation so what I will do is ask you to consider a few basic points
for running your dinner business.
• Do you have a computer – of your own and are you computer literate? You’d be
surprised how many people take this question lightly. You should at least be
willing to learn and to have help on hand to learn. After all your potential
customers aren’t shy of using the computer and will book with your competition
if you aren’t interested in dealing with them.
• Can you plan your time and use a diary – better yet, can you use an online
diary or PDA to help organize your day today business activity? Here is another
vital step in creating an income – its your ability to be business like and to
be a get things done person. Being casual will not get any brownie points, you
simply need to be on time and get things done.
• Do you have some basic sales and people skills? Again here is a practical
level skill set that makes most small business owners a success. If you cant
really deal with people and you cant sell your service – in this case singles
social dinners – you’ll pass over the trade you are wanting to attract. Even if
you’re not a natural sales person – that’s okay – it’s the desire to learn and
to build those skills which makes a business like this truly work.
• Are you willing to treat your business – like a business? Often people who
don’t want to succeed tell their friends and family and even their customers
that; “Oh my business is only a hobby business, I don’t care if it makes a
profit yet”. Well okay fine – but when you do want to make a real income – let
us know when you want to be serious, then your results will change and your
whole business will look different to you as well – its all in your viewpoint,
then the results will flow.
• Since we are talking about a foodie business – do you like eating out at
restaurants? If you do, then you’re half way there. Part of your commitment to a
dinner events business is getting into the swing of things and being a true foodie – having some level of passion about menus and how the attraction of
eating out is for people in a general sense.
On top of all these things remains that of running a business. In order to make
an income you’ll need to know who you can push yourself to make things all work
together and create each event and bring people together.
You’ll need a thick skin and a touch of diplomacy in dealing with people and
business owners especially when things can and do go wrong. Hot headed business
owners don’t last that long in this business. You do need people skills.
So what’s your reward for all this effort?
Apart from a very good income – you’ll ever have a wonderful social life and an
exciting business that’s worth your time and effort each day to enjoy. The
dinner business is a lifestyle and if you enjoy that it will hardly seem like
you’re working. That’s what makes it worth it.
